Product Description
MINITEL H Tablets – Telmisartan 40 mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg
MINITEL H Tablets by Amcare Pharmaceuticals is a prescription fixed-dose combination containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), while hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. The combination is used for blood-pressure management when treatment with more than one antihypertensive mechanism is appropriate.

Uses of MINITEL H Tablets
MINITEL H may be prescribed for:
- Management of hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Blood-pressure control when a combination of an ARB and diuretic is clinically appropriate
- Patients who require additional blood-pressure reduction beyond treatment with a single antihypertensive agent
Telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide combinations are used for hypertension and can provide complementary blood-pressure-lowering effects.
How MINITEL H Tablets Work
Telmisartan 40 mg
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks the action of angiotensin II at the AT₁ receptor. This reduces angiotensin-II-mediated vasoconstriction and helps lower blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. It increases the excretion of sodium and water through the kidneys, helping reduce fluid volume and contributing to lower blood pressure.
Combined Action
Telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide work through different mechanisms. Telmisartan reduces the effects of angiotensin II, while hydrochlorothiazide promotes urinary sodium and water excretion. Together, these mechanisms can provide additional blood-pressure reduction in appropriate patients.
Dosage and Administration
The dosage of MINITEL H Tablets should be decided by the treating physician according to the patient’s blood pressure, response to treatment, kidney function and other clinical factors.
- Take the tablet exactly as prescribed.
- Swallow the tablet with water.
- It may generally be taken with or without food, according to the prescribing instructions.
- Take it at approximately the same time each day.
- Do not increase, decrease or discontinue the medicine without medical advice.
Patients receiving treatment may require periodic monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function and serum electrolytes, particularly when risk factors are present.
Possible Side Effects
Possible adverse effects may include:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Weakness or fatigue
- Low blood pressure
- Nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort
- Electrolyte disturbances
- Increased uric acid levels
- Changes in blood glucose levels
Hydrochlorothiazide can cause electrolyte abnormalities, hyperuricemia and changes in glucose metabolism, while hypotension and renal effects are recognized concerns with the combination.
Contact a healthcare professional if symptoms are severe, persistent or unusual.
Precautions and Warnings
MINITEL H should be used under medical supervision.
Inform your doctor if you have:
- Kidney disease or reduced kidney function
- Liver disease
- Dehydration or low blood volume
- Low blood pressure
- Diabetes
- High or low potassium levels
- Gout or elevated uric acid
- Previous allergy to sulfonamide-derived medicines
- Cardiovascular disease
Telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide treatment can affect renal function and electrolyte levels. Patients at increased risk may require periodic laboratory monitoring.
Pregnancy
Medicines acting on the renin-angiotensin system, including telmisartan, can cause fetal harm. If pregnancy is detected, telmisartan-containing treatment should be discontinued as soon as possible under medical supervision.
Electrolyte Monitoring
Hydrochlorothiazide may cause low potassium, low sodium and low magnesium, while telmisartan may increase potassium in susceptible patients. Periodic electrolyte monitoring may therefore be appropriate.
Gout and Uric Acid
Hydrochlorothiazide can increase serum uric acid and may precipitate gout in susceptible individuals.
Drug Interactions
Inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, OTC medicines and supplements being taken.
Important interactions can include:
- Potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes
- Potassium-sparing diuretics
- Other medicines affecting the renin-angiotensin system
- NSAIDs, including certain COX-2 inhibitors
- Lithium
- Other antihypertensive medicines
- Medicines that can alter electrolyte levels
Combining telmisartan/HCTZ with NSAIDs can increase the risk of renal impairment in susceptible patients and may reduce the antihypertensive/diuretic effect. Telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide can also increase lithium-related toxicity risk when used together with lithium.
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Protect from excessive heat and moisture.
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Keep the tablets in their original packaging.
- Keep out of reach of children.
