Product Description

MINITEL AM Tablets – Telmisartan 40 mg + Amlodipine 5 mg

MINITEL AM Tablets by Amcare Pharmaceuticals is a prescription fixed-dose combination containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg. The combination brings together an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker (CCB), providing complementary mechanisms for blood-pressure reduction. Telmisartan/amlodipine combinations are indicated for the treatment of hypertension.

Uses of MINITEL AM Tablets

MINITEL AM may be prescribed by a healthcare professional for:

  • Management of hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Blood-pressure control when treatment with more than one antihypertensive mechanism is appropriate
  • Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with either an ARB or a calcium-channel blocker alone, when a fixed-dose combination is clinically appropriate.

Controlling hypertension helps reduce the long-term risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction.

How MINITEL AM Tablets Work

Telmisartan 40 mg

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks the action of angiotensin II at the AT₁ receptor. This reduces vasoconstriction and the effects of angiotensin II that contribute to elevated blood pressure.

Amlodipine 5 mg

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker. It relaxes vascular smooth muscle, causing vasodilation and helping reduce blood pressure.

Combined Action

Telmisartan and amlodipine work through different pathways. Their complementary actions can provide additional blood-pressure reduction compared with either component alone in appropriately selected patients.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage of MINITEL AM should be individualized by the prescribing physician.

  • Take the tablet exactly as prescribed.
  • Swallow it with water.
  • Telmisartan/amlodipine tablets may generally be taken with or without food.
  • Take it at approximately the same time each day.
  • Do not stop antihypertensive treatment or change the dose without medical advice.

The appropriate strength depends on the patient’s blood-pressure response and the doses of the individual components considered appropriate by the physician.

Possible Side Effects

Possible adverse effects may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Low blood pressure
  • Ankle or peripheral swelling
  • Nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort

Peripheral edema is a recognized adverse effect associated with amlodipine.

Seek medical attention for severe dizziness/fainting, significant swelling, breathing difficulty, or symptoms suggestive of an allergic reaction.

Precautions and Warnings

MINITEL AM should be used under medical supervision.

Inform the doctor if the patient has:

  • Kidney disease
  • Liver impairment
  • Low blood pressure
  • Dehydration or volume depletion
  • High blood potassium
  • Heart or cardiovascular disease
  • Previous angioedema or serious drug allergy

Pregnancy

Telmisartan acts on the renin-angiotensin system and can cause fetal harm. If pregnancy is detected, telmisartan-containing treatment should be discontinued as soon as possible under medical supervision.

Kidney and Potassium Monitoring

Telmisartan can affect renal function and potassium levels. Patients at risk may require monitoring of renal function and serum potassium during treatment.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor about all medicines being taken, particularly:

  • Other antihypertensive medicines
  • Potassium supplements
  • Potassium-containing salt substitutes
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics
  • NSAIDs
  • Lithium
  • Other medicines affecting the renin-angiotensin system

Combining medicines that affect the renin-angiotensin system or potassium balance can increase the risk of hypotension, kidney impairment or hyperkalemia in susceptible patients.

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Protect from moisture and excessive heat.
  • Protect the tablets from direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Keep the tablets in their original packaging.
