What are ANGINAC-MR Tablets Used For?
ANGINAC-MR is a combination intended for symptomatic management of painful musculoskeletal conditions, particularly where pain, inflammation and muscle-related discomfort occur together.
Chlorzoxazone is indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy and other measures for relief of discomfort associated with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Aceclofenac is used for symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in conditions including:
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis
Physician-directed applications may include:
- Acute musculoskeletal pain
- Painful muscle strains
- Sprains and soft-tissue injuries
- Musculoskeletal pain associated with inflammation
- Painful joint conditions
- Back or neck pain where muscle spasm is clinically relevant
- Other acute painful musculoskeletal conditions as determined by a physician
ANGINAC-MR should not be considered a general-purpose or long-term pain medicine.
How Does ANGINAC-MR Work?
1. Aceclofenac 100 mg
Aceclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
It reduces the production of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation, providing analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Role of Aceclofenac
- Helps reduce inflammatory pain
- Helps reduce swelling associated with inflammation
- Helps improve pain-related movement
- Provides anti-inflammatory activity in musculoskeletal conditions
2. Paracetamol 325 mg
Paracetamol provides analgesic and antipyretic activity and complements the pain-relieving effect of aceclofenac.
Because ANGINAC-MR already contains paracetamol, patients should check other medicines carefully to avoid taking additional paracetamol unnecessarily.
3. Chlorzoxazone 250 mg
Chlorzoxazone is used as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy and other measures for discomfort associated with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions. Its precise mechanism has not been fully established; its effects may be related partly to central nervous system depressant/sedative properties.
Chlorzoxazone may therefore be used when muscle-related discomfort accompanies an acute painful musculoskeletal condition.
Combined Action of ANGINAC-MR
The three ingredients have complementary roles:
Aceclofenac → Pain + inflammation
Paracetamol → Additional pain + fever relief
Chlorzoxazone → Supportive management of acute musculoskeletal discomfort
This combination is therefore positioned for painful musculoskeletal conditions where inflammation and muscle-related discomfort are present together.
Benefits / Therapeutic Role
1. Pain Relief
Aceclofenac and paracetamol provide complementary analgesic activity.
2. Anti-inflammatory Action
Aceclofenac helps reduce inflammation associated with painful musculoskeletal conditions.
3. Muscle-Related Symptom Management
Chlorzoxazone is indicated as an adjunct for discomfort associated with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions.
4. Fixed-Dose Combination
Three active ingredients are provided in a single oral tablet when the prescriber considers all three components appropriate.
Dosage & Administration
ANGINAC-MR should be taken only according to the prescription of a qualified healthcare professional.
The appropriate dosage and treatment duration depend on:
- Diagnosis
- Severity of pain
- Age
- Kidney function
- Liver function
- Cardiovascular risk
- Gastrointestinal history
- Other medicines being used
For aceclofenac alone, product information lists 100 mg twice daily as the usual adult dose, but this should not automatically be used as the dosing instruction for ANGINAC-MR, because this product also contains paracetamol and chlorzoxazone.
Administration
- Take the tablet with water.
- Follow the prescribed schedule.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose.
- Do not take another NSAID unless specifically advised.
- Do not take additional paracetamol-containing products without checking with a healthcare professional.
- Because chlorzoxazone can cause drowsiness or dizziness, take care with driving and machinery.
Important Paracetamol Precaution
Each ANGINAC-MR tablet contains 325 mg of paracetamol.
Check other medicines for:
- Paracetamol
- Acetaminophen
- APAP
Taking multiple paracetamol-containing medicines can unintentionally increase total daily exposure and may cause liver injury.
Possible Side Effects
Because ANGINAC-MR contains three active ingredients, side effects associated with any of the components may occur.
Possible side effects include:
- Indigestion
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Stomach discomfort
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Skin rash
Chlorzoxazone may cause drowsiness, dizziness, light-headedness or malaise in some patients.
Aceclofenac, like other NSAIDs, can cause gastrointestinal, renal, hepatic and cardiovascular adverse effects.
Serious Side Effects
Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as the following occur:
Gastrointestinal
- Vomiting blood
- Black/tarry stools
- Severe abdominal pain
Allergic
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling of the face, lips or throat
- Severe skin rash
Liver-related
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
- Dark urine
- Severe fatigue
- Persistent nausea or vomiting
- Pain in the upper right abdomen
Chlorzoxazone has been associated rarely with serious, potentially fatal hepatocellular toxicity. Patients should discontinue it and seek medical advice if symptoms suggestive of liver injury develop.
Precautions & Warnings
1. Gastrointestinal Risk
Aceclofenac, as an NSAID, can cause gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration and perforation, which can occasionally occur without warning symptoms. Risk may be greater in patients with previous ulcer disease or other GI risk factors.
2. Liver Function
This product requires particular attention to liver health because:
- Aceclofenac can be associated with hepatic adverse effects.
- Paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver injury.
- Chlorzoxazone has a rare but serious hepatotoxicity warning.
Patients with existing liver disease should discuss the medicine with their doctor before use.
3. Kidney Function
NSAIDs such as aceclofenac can affect renal function, particularly in susceptible patients.
Patients with kidney disease, dehydration, heart failure or other renal risk factors require medical assessment before NSAID treatment.
4. Cardiovascular Risk
Aceclofenac and other NSAIDs may increase cardiovascular risk, particularly with increasing dose and duration. The lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration should be considered.
5. Drowsiness
Chlorzoxazone may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid activities requiring full alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
Who Should Avoid or Use ANGINAC-MR With Caution?
Medical advice is particularly important for patients with:
- History of stomach ulcer or GI bleeding
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Heart failure
- Asthma or allergic reactions associated with NSAIDs
- Bleeding disorders
- Significant alcohol consumption
- Previous drug-related liver problems
- Concomitant anticoagulant treatment
Aceclofenac product information contains specific contraindications and precautions relating to gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, hepatic, renal and hypersensitivity risks.
Drug Interactions
Inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, OTC medicines and supplements.
Particular attention may be required with:
- Other NSAIDs
- Aspirin
- Warfarin and other anticoagulants
- Antiplatelet medicines
- Corticosteroids
- ACE inhibitors
- ARBs
- Diuretics
- Lithium
- Methotrexate
- Medicines affecting kidney function
- Other paracetamol-containing medicines
- Alcohol or other CNS depressants
Aceclofenac can interact with several medicines, including anticoagulants, antihypertensives, diuretics, lithium and methotrexate.
Chlorzoxazone can have an additive CNS-depressant effect when combined with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
Do not duplicate paracetamol
Do not combine ANGINAC-MR with another paracetamol-containing medicine unless specifically advised by your healthcare professional.
Alcohol & ANGINAC-MR
Alcohol should be avoided or minimized while taking ANGINAC-MR unless your doctor advises otherwise.
There are two particular concerns:
- Chlorzoxazone + alcohol may increase CNS depression and drowsiness.
- Alcohol can add to concerns relating to NSAID-associated gastrointestinal irritation and excessive paracetamol exposure can increase liver risk.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
ANGINAC-MR should be used during pregnancy only after specific medical assessment.
Aceclofenac, as an NSAID, has important pregnancy-related restrictions, particularly later in pregnancy. Chlorzoxazone labeling also states that safe use during pregnancy has not been established.
Pregnant, planning-pregnancy or breastfeeding patients should inform their physician before using this medicine.
Driving & Operating Machinery
ANGINAC-MR may cause:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Light-headedness
- Reduced alertness
These effects are particularly relevant to chlorzoxazone. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience these symptoms.
Storage
Store ANGINAC-MR Tablets:
- In a cool, dry place
- Away from direct sunlight
- Protected from moisture
- In the original packaging
- Out of reach of children
Follow the storage instructions printed on the approved product packaging.
